104 Year Old Steam Shovel Working

This 1915 Erie steam shovel was purchased by Statford Barn Railway in 2012 from Canada. It was then overhauled to its original condition. Replacement components were all manufactured by Statford engineering workshops. To operate this steam shovel you need a driver, fireman, banksman and a water-coal boy. The shovel can move 500 cubic yards per day using 1 tonne of coal and 3000 gallons of water. It was stated in 1915 that this type of shovel did the same work as 30 men with 10 horses and wagons. The
