Aldabra giant tortoise floating in lagoon

Have you ever seen an #Aldabra giant tortoise swimming? 🐢 Although tortoises are known to wade in shallow pools of water, these creatures sometimes find themselves floating in the Aldabra lagoon, where when calm waters permit, they can manage to swim along. This is also how the #aldabragianttortoise managed to colonise the atoll multiple times. Over thousands of years the atoll has been submerged by sea level rise, when land resurfaced, tortoises from neighbouring islands washed ashore and re-established their population.
