Known for their legendary parties, they’ve built a reputation for curating genre-blurring events that span everything from Afrobeat, Jazz, Salsa, Caribbean, Brazilian rhythms and beyond. Since its inception, the crew has hosted over 150 parties, each one representing their deep love for vinyl and a shared sense of community. In 2020, they also started their own label, Worm Discs, showcasing some of the most forward-thinking acts from across the UK. They’ve also recently released their first international artist from Brazil, Iara Rennó. The Bristol-based trio Worm Disco Club dig deep into their crates to present this special mix of Afro-Diasporic selections. Drawing on the shared musical heritage between Cape Verde, the French Antilles and Brazil, the Worms explore genres such as Funana, Lambada, Cadence, Gwoka and more. This music is pure dancing music - a joyous celebration of life from these vibrant diasporic communities across the globe. When this music was being created, there were many links between these regions, both contemporary and ancestral. For example, “Isso é Bom” by Avatar (Brazil, 1988) is a cover of “Cuisse La” by Les Aiglons, which was recorded in Guadeloupe in 1977. Musical cross-pollination such as this perhaps arose from Brazilians being able to receive long-distance radio signals directly from the Caribbean!
