Alexei Navalny’s funeral to be held on Friday

Navalny died suddenly in a remote Arctic prison earlier this month. Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Alexei Navalny, announced on Wednesday the date of his funeral. However, she expressed uncertainty about whether the funeral will go smoothly as planned. After Navalny’s death, dozens of his supporters were detained by the authorities when they laid flowers at various memorial sites. Navalny’s associates initially wanted to hold his funeral on Thursday, but no venues were willing to host it due to Putin’s scheduled annual state-of-the-nation address to Russia’s Federal Assembly. The funeral will now take place at the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God in Moscow.
