“Widmung” is part of the Myrthen Op. 25 Song Cycle, composed by Robert Schumann in 1840 as a wedding gift for his wife, Clara Wieck. Originally set to Friederich Ruckert’s poem of the same name, “Widmung” was later popularized by Franz Liszt in an arrangement for solo piano that has been among the staples of piano encores ever since. We were fortunate to have the Merz Trio at Guarneri Hall in fall 2019 to capture this beautiful performance of the piece, masterfully arranged for piano trio by Merz pianist Lee Dionne.
