SU-37 Terminator - 27 Years of Unparalleled Aviation Technology

On April 2, 2023, the Su-37 “Terminator,“ a heavyweight air superiority fighter created by Russia as part of an ambitious effort to significantly upgrade the Su-27 Flanker fourth-generation airframe for next-generation combat, will have completed 27 years since its maiden flight. The Su-27 was introduced into service by the Soviet Union in 1985, and the Su-37 prototype was designed to act as a technology demonstration for a number of new features that would speed the creation of the “Su-27M,“ an improved version of various Russian weaponry systems. Due to the post-Soviet decline of the Russian defense industry, the Su-27M would eventually reach service, albeit several years later than anticipated.
