China’s HH70 Tokamak, the first to use high-temperature superconductors, achieves first discharge
China’s Honghuang 70 (HH70), the first tokamak device in the world that uses high-temperature superconductors, has recently successfully achieved first plasma.
Announced by Shanghai’s Energy Singularity, this milestone puts China at the forefront of clean energy development through controlled nuclear fusion, often referred to as the “artificial sun”. Over 96% of its components are domestically sourced and its magnets are made entirely from advanced superconducting materials.
The entire design and construction process took just two years, the quickest development in this field.
