Invierno Porteño (A. Piazzolla, arr. S. Assad) | Marc-Etienne Leclerc

The music of Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) is a fantastic example of the union drawn between an existing tradition and a composer’s own genius. Throughout his life, he revived the flame of tango in Argentina by confering it some modern and innovative elements, while preserving its rhythmical and expressive roots. His suite ’’Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons in Buenos Aires)’ is certainly amongst his best known and appreciated works. Each of the four movements permeates the individual caracter of each season, as perceived by Piazzolla in the argentinian capital. From those, Invierno Porteño (Winter) expresses a deep melancholia, many times heightened by passionnated gusts. First conceived for his quintet (bandoneon, violin, piano, electric guitar & double bass), this arrangement for solo guitar was made by Sergio Assad, and revised in different passages by Marc-Etienne.
