Astor Piazzolla: Tango “Verano Porteño“ for piano (with score)

Performed by Christian Dillig (Piano). This tango is part of the cycle Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla (1921 -1992) in an arrangement for piano. The cycle describes the four seasons in the Argentine capital and port city of Buenos Aires. A porteño, or feminine porteña, is a term for a resident of a port city. Originally, these were four independent compositions, which Piazzolla later combined into the cycle. The very energetic tango Verano porteñas captures the mood of summer with its bustle. As in many of his over 300 tangos, strictly rhythmic and gripping passages alternate with poetic passages in a freer tempo. This is entirely in keeping with Piazzolla, who did not conceive his tango compositions as background music for dancing, but wanted them to be understood as music for listening.
