Rooted in the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, the Hare Krishna mantra is mentioned in the Kali Shantarana Upanishad and is central to the practice of Bhakti yoga. The Hare Krishna mantra, also known as the Maha-mantra or “Great“ mantra, consists of only four lines, consisting of the names of God and His energies: Hare, Krishna and Rama. Hare is the internal energy of God. Krishna and Rama are the names of the Lord, all-attractive and all-pleasing.
