Temirkanov conducts Elgar’s “Nimrod“ - St. Petersburg Philharmonic (Proms 1992)
Yuri Temirkanov became the Music Director and Chief Conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in 1988. Four years later the great Russian orchestra made its BBC Proms debut in London’s Royal Albert Hall in front of a packed 5,000-strong audience. Temirkanov played several encores and in recognition of a particularly British occasion, he performed one of Elgar’s most-loved compositions, “Nimrod“ from the ’Enigma Variations.’ (ICA Classics DVD ICAD 5065).
