Mu Cephei

Nearly 100,000 times brighter than the sun, Mu Cephei is the reddest star known, and was called ’the Garnet Star’ by the astronomer William Herschel. It is unimaginably huge: its circumference, if placed where our sun is, would reach to somewhere between Jupiter and Saturn. This piece is the 11th in the series created during the isolation of March-April 2020, and uses source sounds from the composer’s kitchen, plus some electric guitar from the composer’s son. It is the eleventh in the series of electroacoustic miniatures composed during social isolation in March-April 2020.
