Canada’s foreign minister says Israel’s strike in Rafah ‘horrific’, urges ‘immediate ceasefire’

Addressing the parliament, Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly described the scenes from Rafah as “horrific“ and “heartbreaking.“ She urged for an “immediate ceasefire,” stating that “the killing of innocent civilians is completely unacceptable.“ Many world leaders and senior officials have expressed outrage following Israel’s attack on a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Sunday. The death toll from the attack has now risen to 45, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The area which was designated by Israel as a “safe zone,” has sheltered thousands of displaced Palestinians since Israel’s invasion of Rafah two weeks ago.
