Operation Saratoga (1965)

Mediterranean Sea. Jet planes fly past overhead. 80,000 ton American aircraft carrier “Saratoga“ is seen from the air. Planes take off. Men are seen at work on board. Model aircraft are moved around a lay out of the flight deck. C/U of cartoon figures painted on side of aircraft - Felix the cat, an owl and a black panther. Various shots of American Air Force pilots being briefed in the squadron room. They get their kit on - including gun holsters. Escalator to the flight deck. Aircraft are moved into place on platforms. Pilots put on their helmets and prepare for flight. Rescue helicopter takes off, then a radar aircraft which is known affectionately as “Willy Fudd“. Narrator tells us that the Pathe cameraman Martin Rolfe: “scrambled close to these monster jets to snatch these dramatic shots of catapult launchings.“ Various aircraft are seen taking off.
