Warsaw’s Operette 1928: aria from Paganini ( Lehar) sung by Mieczysław Salecki

Mieczysław Salecki & Orkiestra pod dyr. Bronisława Szulca — Rad jam pocałunki kradł (Girls Were Made To Love And Kiss) z operetki “Paganini“ (), Syrena 1928 (Polish; accoustical recording) NOTE: Mieczysław SALECKI (1893-1982) Polish opera and operetta singer, tenor. Salecki completed his musical studies in 1918 in Kiev (then belonging to the Russian Empire). In 1924 in Grand Theatre in Warsaw, ke had his successful debut followed by engagement at the Opera House in Lwów, and in later years at the “Nowości“ Operetta Theatre in Warsaw. His warm resonant tenor turned out to be very phonogenic, therefore Salecki was abundantly recorded and his records with popular songs and arias from Polish operas, sold well. He travelled abroad, giving recitals as “Mario Saletzky“ in Prague, Dresden, Vienna, Zurich and in the Russian Opera in Paris, where he sung together with Fyodor Schalyapin. In 1930s he was contracted at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw and for the season 1938/39 at the Opera in Poznań. His career was ruined by the outbreak of World War 2. Back in Warsaw, he sung solely in the cafes and in private apartments. After the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, he was deported with all the Warsaw survivors to German concentration camps. In 1948 he returned to Poland, to work merely as a music teacher. Almost completely forgotten, in 1974 he was granted a modest celebration of 50 years of his artistic career. The slideshow presents several photographs of Warsaw — how it looked before its destruction by the Germans and Soviets, during the 2nd World War (1939-45)
