HUBUD: Wrenching Opportunities

Hubud, often spelled Hubad, full name Higot Hubud-Lubud, is an area of study found in many Filipino and Indonesian Fighting Arts. Each system or school may approach the subject differently. From some, it may a single series of motions done in flow in the context of developing one or two attributes. For other, it is a practice (or perhaps a blending) of many different movement patterns and techniques that are hallmarked by their sticking and un-sticking nature. In the MKG Method, it is part of a greater whole that we simply call “The Game.” Hubud usually starts with a pre-set, unbroken chain of motions that act as a platform or “generator.” Upon this, within it, or from within it will be added and trained a potentially complex series of techniques and tools. Many Close-Range Fighting drills or techniques will meld into this platform so that the student/artist is able to choose between finding creative opportunities to utilize a specific technique, or test their non-conscious ability to implement the right tool
