Drag comparison between a free spinning prop and a stopped prop.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Turns out it’s not as simple as this video shows. The drag difference depends on prop pitch, with higher pitch reducing the free spinning drag. With high enough prop pitch free-spinning drag can be less than stopped drag. None of my props were high enough pitch to show it but the free-spinning drag certainly was less.
This study shows a proper investigation with wind tunnel and sensors.
