Mount Edgecumbe Volcano Update; Magma Moving at Depth, Possible Gas Emissions

The Mount Edgecumbe volcano near the town of Sitka in Alaska is showing signs of unrest, as magma has been detected moving underneath its edifice. We now know how much magma is involved, what depth this is occurring at, and if an eruption was to eventually occur, where it would most likely begin on the volcano. Additionally, a possible new gas vent was observed on Kruzof island which might be related to the ongoing unrest. Note: The volcano alert level at Mount Edgecumbe as of March 1st 2023 is still green (aka normal), and this is unlikely to increase unless a dramatic increase in seismic and other volcanic activity occurs.
