1974 WC Qualifer Poland V Wales - Full game

A draw against England at Wembley and victory over Poland at Cardiff in their previous two qualifying matches meant Wales went to Katowice in September 1973 knowing that a draw might be enough to see Dave Bowen’s team qualify for the world cup in West Germany the following year. Alas Wales hopes of reaching a first major finals in 16 years were dashed by a rampant poland team who ran out comfortable 3 nil winners on the night. Because of a colour clash with the poles Wales changed into a green and yellow kit which was only ever worn in this fixture. While the late Trevor Hockey’s red card saw him become the first Welsh international to be sent off in a qualifying campaign. The match commentary is from Polish television.
