Astronaut William Anders, one of the Apollo 8 crew members who circled the moon for the first time, has crashed in a plane crash, Fox News reports. Judging by footage on social media and available information from the sheriff and relatives, the vintage military plane that Anders owned crashed into the water near the San Juan Islands in Washington state. Those close to the 90-year-old former astronaut say it was he who was piloting the machine. Anders took one of the most famous photos of the moon, capturing the Earth rising above the satellite on 24 December 1968. Source: Global News (EU, USA)
