Here, we introduce NIBS techniques able to address the causal role between specific brain regions and their functions. We discuss the pioneering studies that showed how Transcranial Electrical Stimulation is able to induce robust increase of cortical excitability, thereby boosting behavioral performance of motor and cognitive tasks in humans. A phenomenon recently labeled as Neuroenhancement. Neuroenhancement refers to the targeted enhancement and extension of motor and cognitive abilities based on an understanding of their underlying neurobiology.
