I have been working on a terrain workflow in Houdini 18 for my shortfilm, I have a lot of huge landscape to generate with very little resources. So it was important for me to find way to optimize the creative process while maintaining production quality.
I learned so much experimenting with it, I figured I could share a series of tutorials about environment and why not getting you excited about making terrains in Houdini !
In this video I am walking you through the node network, and try to show you an optimized way to approach a large scene.
Also breaking down the different steps of making the base for the main terrain in foreground.
I will show next how to generate a tool to convert a curve into a dune thanks to some sweep operations.
