Turkish President Recep Tayiip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the Akkuyu nuclear power would start operating in 2023, during the groundbreaking ceremony for its third unit held in Mersin province, Wednesday. “Turkey’s “Akkuyu“ first nuclear power plant should be operational in 2023, when the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey will be celebrated - so the task was set by the leadership of Turkey at the beginning of this project and Mr. Erdogan himself,” the Russian leader said.
