Allentown Bully Convention 2: American Bulldog

The American Bulldog is the modernized descendant of the athletic farm bulldogs that were brought over from Britain to America. These farm bulldogs fell in popularity and were almost gone after WWII. John D. Johnson saw this and decided to increase the breed’s population. Alan Scott also worked to standardize and stabilize the breed. Johnson’s dogs were larger and bulkier, while Scott’s dogs were leaner and more athletic. Most American Bulldogs today are called “hybrids“ and have both Johnson and Scott dogs in their pedigrees
