you can do either or its sensitivity drills and there other drills such as tapi tapi and Mano Mano ect these drills art similar to Chi Sao drills practiced in wing chun both systems rely heavy on sensitivity drills to build coordination timing sensitivity speed with a lot of repititions, Kali kombat has many drills using 52 FMA mixed blocking which we will be going in future videos ...

typically In FMA practitioners would train with double weapons first then single then employ emptyhand because that is how it typically went in battle loose a weapon fight with 1 loose that fight empty hand with the same flow.. unless you have a back up blade then its pass slash stab samo samo man mano. but because it is hard to block with a single stick rather than strike from angles to deflect the empty hand is the same techniques
tho you cant block a knife attack with cover blocks you would need to deflect and gain position or get out kali combat understands the need to use these in modern day attacks like being out numbered or out skilled you should cover and be able to attack from that cover stayng protected

Block parry check - mate drills are the best way to gain muscle memory you can do tons of repetitions in a short training session so we demonstrate some ways to practice these techniques with a partner ways to incorperate 52Blocks techniques into the FMA concept every defensive move is an offensive counter from the destruction block to the attackers hand to the striking trap on the pressure points of attackers arm followed by the strikes and finishes..
