Rare Couesnon Military Fanfare/Ceremonial Natural Eb Trumpet Reproduction of “Trompette a l’angle”.

BRASS FROM THE PAST: Rare 1950s or 1960s Couesnon Military Fanfare/Ceremonial Natural Eb Trumpet. Made in Paris, France. This is a reproduction of the “Trompette a l’angle” designed by Adolphe sax. In April 1854 Adolphe Sax was appointed Musical Instrument Maker to the Household Troops of Emperor Napoleon III. When Napoleon III’s “Cent Gardes” were established to protect the French Emperor and his immediate family, Sax developed a special fanfare trumpet, the “Trompette a l’angle”, for the Escardon des Cent Gardes. This was an elite cavalry squadron of the second French Empire who would play the Fanfare Trumpet while riding their horses. The term (a l’angle) refers to the angled lead pipe that points the trumpet sideways, away from the horse’s head. Listen to sounds from the past. I am playing a trumpet fanfare I composed to perhaps give you an idea of what this horn may have sounded like 170 years ago more or less.
