Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro begins state visit in China

Early this week, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez led a group of top officials to Shanghai, the most senior Venezuelan delegation to visit China in five years. Maduro’s government is seeking financial support in areas relating to energy, infrastructure and telecommunications. China’s growing ties with Venezuela come at a challenging time for Latin America, as rising debt stress, inflation and the global impacts of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine stall economic recovery. Despite political uncertainty and financing risks, experts agree China’s economic footprint in Latin America will continue to grow.
