These asylums were for adults as well as for children. A large numbers of children were dumped in these hellholes simply because they were orphans. These innocents were neglected and abused. Lacking human contact, they rocked back and forth in a vain quest for comfort. An American volunteer decided to go over to Romania and offer her services.
