Gareth Pugh Fall 2012: Dark Alien Warrior Women Come To Life at Paris Fashion Week PFW | FashionTV

SUBSCRIBE: PARIS - While designer Gareth Pugh shied away from using any form of “religious terminology“ to describe his Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012-2013 showcase, the fashion media publications inferred that he was putting forth a strong woman with a surge in power. This is not different from many of the other themes in Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collections this season, but Pugh, of course, takes that theme to a whole other level by using the female model in a dark way and through pieces that make her look powerful, but also sort of alien. Black petals fell from the ceiling as opening model Joan Smalls marched with attitude in an oversize shag carpet fur and curved crescent moon-shaped headpiece. The garments ranged from thick furs and fringe to body hugging leather and snakeskin. (Many wondered if this referred to the serpent from Adam and Eve, but again no religious references were confirmed here!) The women were alien, but also warrior, wearing spiked shoulders, high sculpted necks, and tough leather. We may be used to Gareth Pugh’s dark alien references by now, but we never grow tired of it.
