And even though he had strong observations against writing a piano trio - the sheer sound of the three instruments together did not please him - he later admitted to be “quite proud“ of his new work, even though it seemed to him to be more of an orchestral score in disguise than a real piano trio. In any case, it is full of heartfelt passion, beautiful melodic inspiration and the typical Tchaikovskian Ballet characterizations - even though the Sleeping Beauty or the Nutcracker had not been composed yet.
