Shephard’s [sic] Pie (1940)

Titles read: ’Now Pathetone Takes You Over To The Princes Theatre London, For A Topical Glance At “SHEPHARD’S [sic] PIE“.’ London. Several shots of lines of troops - newly recruited guards - arriving at the Princes Theatre for a performance of the revue ’Shephard’s Pie’. Stage stars Phyllis Robbins, Sydney Howard, Arthur Riscoe and an impossibly young-looking Richard Hearne (aka Mr Pastry) greeting guards as they enter the theatre. Riscoe and Hearne try to sneak in with the guards but are pulled out of the line by a policeman. Various shots of Sydney Howard in a sketch from the show called ’A Bedtime Story’ - he tells a joke about a man giving his dog half a crown to fetch a newspaper and finding the dog had picked up a French poodle instead. We then see Benita Lydal, Sydney Howard, Arthur Riscoe and Richard Hearne doing another comedy routine from the show called ’Chamber Music’.
