Catrigg Force Waterfall - Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Stainforth, Yorkshire Dales National Park

Catrigg Force Waterfall is a hidden gem, a magical and mysterious place. This waterfall is hidden deep within a wooded gorge one mile upstream of Stainforth village and is a perfect secluded spot loved by everyone who finds it. The main waterfall has a vertical drop of about 6 metres into a lovely step pool. This secluded spot was one of Elgar’s favourite places and he drew inspiration from the Yorkshire Dales to compose his most famous works - the Enigma Variations and Pomp and Circumstance. A simple walk up Goat Scar Lane out of Stainforth will take you to Catrigg Force. Throughout the steady climb there are nice retrospective views over Stainforth and over to Smearsett Scar on the other side of the valley.
