Timo Gross is back. “Black Dawg Bone“ is his first album after an eight-year break. When he decided to take a break in 2016 after his award-winning album “Heavy Soul“ and a long tour, he had no idea how long it would last.
Gross was not idle during this time, focusing on writing and producing for others - including Veronique Gayot’s first two albums.
But in the end, Gross’s fingertips were itching to return to the tranquillity of the Palatinate. He went back to his roots and recorded a dirty blues album.
On “Black Dawg Bone“, Timo Gross reaches a new peak in his creative work. His songwriting has continued to evolve, and the album’s multi-faceted production allows him to transport the songs into different soundscapes that immerse the listener in different scenarios. Many of the songs on the album reflect the great themes of life: love, death, fear and hope.
His distinctive voice, smoky and sometimes disturbing, dominates the album and lends it an intense expressiveness. The guitar work is more reduced than on his previous albums, but therefore all the more haunting and imbued with the energy of an artist with experience of life.
He is joined by many friends, such as the guys from the Cologne Blues Club and Tom Fronza from the Analogue Birds on didgeridoo.
With “Black Dawg Bone“, Timo Gross has created a magical work that captures life in all its facets and enriches it with blues, rock and soul. It is an authentic and fearless album that captures the essence of the blues in a unique way. An outstanding work that makes the magic of this musical form palpable in every note.
And finally, “Black Dawg Bone“ is of course also a tribute to his dog Nschotschi.
