Cyborg Kuro Chan: A tribute to my childhood (1997-2001)

Автор: Al Balog Описание: Not quite related to wrestling, but nonetheless late 90s/early 2000s nostalgia. A tribute to Cyborg Kuro-Chan, my all-time favorite cartoon and comic book growing up as a kid in the Attitude Era. Still makes me sad how both WCW and KuroChan officially went out-of-business in April 2001. I had tons of Japanese bootleg VHS of this show and watched it on a syndicated Spanish channel. Even as a kid, I used to make my Kuro-Chan toys fight with my wrestling action figures 😁. I remember being first introduced to this around November 1997, shortly after the Montreal Screwjob (Bret screwed Bret) and before the WWF debuted its famous “scratch“ logo on the bottom-left corner of the screen. At this time, it was still only a comic, which then became a full-fledged TV cartoon in October 1999. Me and my friends at school though that Kuro-Chan was the coolest shit, considering that it was Japan-exclusive. Japanese sellers in my area at local flea markets used to sell Japanese movies, cartoons, comics, wrestling, manga, anime, games, etc. They were by far the most popular sellers among children. Me and my elementary/middle school buds would draw Kuro-Chan characters in crayon, trade tapes, look at Japanese websites on dial-up internet, and debate Mii-Kun’s gender (I’d say female to be controversial 😋). And the fanart is evenly split, haha 😄. I’m not kidding, but I think if Cyborg Kuro-Chan was able to get a major release in the USA (as it had in Asia and continental Europe at the time), he could have been a good rival to Sonic The Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, etc. and possibly still be a mascot today. God, I miss those days 😌. Playing my gaming computer hours straight (it was a Windows NT 4.0 from 1996). Watching through my Kuro Chan tapes. Staying up to 2:00 AM every Saturday night to watch WCW Worldwide. Music is some Russian techno Eurodance from the late 90s, something that Alex Wright would probably dance in the middle of the ring to. Thought that it would be a great fit for Cyborg Kuro-Chan’s personality.
