This exhibition is a multi-faceted effort that explores Manuel Mendive’s visual and performance work while delving into the themes of religion, nationalism, and memory. This newly-produced show covers Mendive’s career full of drawings, paintings, sculptures, and video performances from the early 1960s to the present, and emphasizes the artist’s mature work. Curated by Cuban-born art historian Dr. Bárbaro Martínez-Ruiz, the exhibit benefits from his extensive knowledge of African and Caribbean artistic, visual, and religious practices. Manuel Mendive Hoyo (Havana, Cuba 1944--) is internationally recognized as a master of contemporary Cuban art. His work has been exhibited throughout Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
