Fish Tapeworm (Diphyllobothriasis) | Transmission, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention
Fish Tapeworms are tapeworm species (ex. Diphyllobothrium latum) that infect humans through consumption of raw or undercooked fish, leading to the condition known as Diphyllobothriasis. Diphyllobothriasis (or infection with a tapeworm from fish) leads to a variety of signs and symptoms, including passage of proglottids in the stool, anal irritation and pruritus, abdominal discomfort and indigestion. The diagnosis of Diphyllobothriasis involves looking for ova and parasites in the stool and the treatment often involves certain anti-helminthic therapies.
