In the mountains of my hometown, there is a kind of tree called Qinggang.
Every winter, people will cut down the Qinggang tree that has grown for more than seven years,
cut it into lengths of wooden sticks of the same length, and hang them up to dry in the winter.
Drill holes in the spring of the second year, plant mycelia, and move them into their room after dozens of days of fungal growth.
When summer comes, white fungus start to grow after a few heavy rains.
These small “flowers“ that grow on the Qinggang tree are Tongjiang white fungus.
There is another characteristic of the Qinggang tree: as long as its roots are not dead,
there will be Qinggang trees growing on the stump in a few years.
So when people shove trees, they always keep the stumps.
