Krang Suite | TMNT: Out of the Shadows (Original Soundtrack) by Steve Jablonksy

I’m not really afraid to admit that the score for Out of the Shadows isn’t my favorite thing in the world, with a lot of the themes sounding derivative of other scores and not really sticking with me. However, one theme always stood out as being quite good despite the project, and that’s Krang’s theme. With an eight note electronic ostinato, the soundscape and musical language of Krang is crafted using electronic sounds, distorted sirens, and a flurry of strings. Other melodic components include a nine note percussive beat through hard hitting drums, and a grandiose, climactic sounding five note motif usually saved for his most villainous moments throughout the film. Krang’s theme has a musical identity completely unique to the character, and I think that for a film and score as underwhelming as this it stands out as something truly riveting and menacing, successfully portraying the character as an impending, out of this world threat.
