Timeline🎬 00:00 Greeting 00:29 Do you find yourself as a decorator? 01:34 A painting where past experiences and future aspirations coexist 02:46 The advantages of my workspace! 05:05 I make my own canvases using various materials 06:22 Canvases made from old shirts, the feeling of the painting changes depending on the material used 07:16 Deliberately slow work processes 08:24 Grandmother’s attic, making the useless useful. 10:45 “I have faith in my painting more than myself. There will come moments when each of them becomes interesting. I’m just here to listen to their stories.“ Anthony Banks(@4nthony8anks) an artist based in East London, emphasises artwork itself is more important than the artist’s daily life. “My process is deliberately kind of slow non-direct. I was listening to a lot of, like podcasts and documentaries on like the war repairing sort of community is like post-war. I was very interested in this idea of kind of repairing. To repair something rather than replace it , to not give up on it, to see, to see the value in something, whether kind of culturally or to the people that live around something instead of destroying something, obliterates it. I’m completely starting again to add to it, to add to its history narrative.“ -Anthony Banks, 2023 This new film offers a rare glimpse into the studio of Anthony Banks, one of the brilliant painters working today in East London. It follows Anthony in the days of his exhibition and studio in London.
