Coin Retrieval: Dog Endoscopy Unveils Stomach Ulcer Mystery

We present the endoscopy performed on a one-year-old dog that has ingested a 2-euro cent coin. Upon examining the patient, we discovered that there is a gastric ulcer in the vicinity of the coin. This finding raises the intriguing question of whether the ulcer was caused by the presence of the coin or if, on the contrary, the coin was ingested in response to a pre-existing discomfort. Although it is tempting to assume that the ulcer was provoked by the presence of the coin, the reality is that we cannot rule out the possibility that the ulcer predates the ingestion of the coin. It could be that the dog, seeking relief from its discomfort, ingested the coin as an instinctive way to cope with the discomfort caused by the ulcer. During the endoscopy, our medical professionals will use state-of-the-art technology to carefully extract the coin from the dog’s stomach. This case highlights the importance of being attentive to signs of discomfort in our pets and the need to intervene promptly to preserve their health.
