There’s a new couple on the block, young and eager to start a family. Dad (Male Convict Cichlid) has to make sure the area is safe for the dozens of babies that will soon be born. He does so by patrolling the territory and sending out warnings (flared gills) to potential threats (Including the fish next door and myself). The next door fish, Indonimus (Jaguar Cichlid x Dovii Cichlid Hybrid), is not so happy with these warnings and fires back with more “toothy“ messages. A day in the life...
I only allow them to see each other for brief moments, 2-3 times a week while being supervised. I believe extended meetings may have a negative impact on the fish from seeing a threat and never being able to do any thing about it.
