Dietrich Becker (1623 - 1679), mid-17th century German composer from Hamburg. Starting out as an organist, he switched to the violin, become a violin virtuoso and respected musician in Hamburg. His sonatas are of the early Italian model, but he was the first to group the dances Allemande - Courant - Sarabande - Gigue together into suites for the instrument ensemble. No solo violin works of his remain, but his sonatas have rewarding technical passages for players.
