``“I would not be me without Clare Fischer” – Herbie Hancock Grammy-winning composer, arranger, band leader and multi-instrumentalist, Dr Douglas Clare Fischer has a special place in jazz and pop history. Initially a player in The Hi-Los band, he quickly moved on to arrange music for Donald Byrd and Dizzy Gillespie before making his mark with the influential Latin/Jazz standards “Morning” and “Pensativa”. By the 70s he was in hot demand. He capitalised on his widespread appeal by running a parallel career, working with Prince, Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson and numerous other pop-stars. In 1975 he joined a group headed by vibraphonist Cal Tjader, an accomplished Latin jazz musician. The experience inspired Fischer to bring together a collection of Latin musicians under the “Salsa Picante” umbrella. This album celebrates their exploration of Salsa, Bossa Nova and Latin-tinged jazz. Fischer masterfully engineers a unique sound with his daring Rhodes and electric piano work.
