‘Siberian Maldives’ Selfies: Toxic Lake Becomes New Instagram Sensation
Instagrammers are flocking to a lake in Siberia to take the perfect ‘Maldives’ selfie, but its turquoise waters are the result of chemical dumping.
The lake, now nicknamed ‘Siberian Maldives’, is in fact a dump for toxic waste and ash from a nearby power station.
The Siberian Generating Company that runs the power plant outside the city of Novosibirsk urged visitors not to swim in the lake, but insists it presents no danger to the environment.
