Persona (Ingmar Bergman) - The repeated scene

This is the scene where Alma (Bibi Andersson) speaks for almost 4 minutes and the camera is following Elisabeth’s (Liv Ullmann) face as a listener all the time. Then the same story is repeated as the camera shows Alma. Jean-Claude Carrière wrote that he had asked Bergman about that scene and Bergman’s reply had been that he hadn’t planned to repeat the scene, he just hadn’t known what to cut in order to do the montage of the two actresses.
