Melita Real Queen Of The Day In America (1956)

Orly Airport. Melita Real born with Yugoslav nationality, married in United States for several years, told a TV ’Queen of the Day’ quiz of the dramatic story of her lost child. 14 years ago when she was 19 years old and working in Germany in a plant she met a 17 year old man Karl Ollinge and they were soon engaged to be married. Karl was taken in the German army and sent to the Russian front while Melita was put in a work camp by German authorities. She says she was taken to a private house to have her child whom she never saw and who died at birth according to what she was told. Having heard lately through her brother that her daughter really lived and had been brought up by foster-parents living in Saar, she told her story and won a trip to Europe as ’Queen of the Day’. Melita arrived to photographers and drove to Lorraine where she met her family, then Karl Ollinger and then went to Mrs Ferry’s home (her daughter’s foster parents).
