Ευδοκία - Ζεϊμπέκικο (Evdokia - Dance scene - extended)

Set in early 70s Greece, in a small provincial town, the film tells the story of Evdokia, a young prostitute, and George, a young soldier, who fall in love and get married, against the bias, conservatism and established values in the society where they live. However, it’s difficult not to get crushed by reality. In this iconic scene, we can witness the first meeting between Evdokia and George during a powerful Zeimpekiko dance. Director: Alexis Damianos Date of release: 1971 Music: Manos Loizos imdb page: PS: the female protagonist’s voice might seem a bit out of sync; it’s because she’s dubbed. The director wanted amateurs for the duo of lead actors, but the female lead’s delivery was not deemed appropriate for the film, so they used a Greek singer to dub her.
