May 31, 1961 - President John F. Kennedy arriving in Paris, France

President Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy are met at Orly Airport in Paris by President Charles de Gaulle upon their arrival for a 3 day state visit. In a pre-luncheon meeting at the Élysée Palace, Kennedy and de Gaulle discuss Berlin and express a “complete identity of view“ on readiness to meet with force any Soviet threat to the city. After lunch both leaders meet again to discuss Southeast Asia and Africa. President Kennedy is given a reception at the Quai d’Orsay. President Kennedy lays a wreath and relights the flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier in ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe.
