Mladen Dolar – ‘Lacan versus Foucault’: Subjectivity, Universalism, Sexuality, Power, Politics...

Jacques Lacan was a 20th century Parisian psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and (anti-)philosopher who expanded upon and redefined Sigmund Freud’s work. Michel Foucault was a French philosopher, historian of ideas, writer, political activist, and literary critic. Foucault’s theories primarily address the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions. Mladen Dolar is Professor and Senior Researcher at the Department of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana. Paper presented at The American University of Beirut, Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Sciences on Jan 29, 2016.
