DAREDEVILS: Heart-pounding highlights of seocnd EVA of Shenzhou-17 crew from edge of space
The Shenzhou-17 crew members, who are currently on board China’s space station, have completed their second extravehicular mission at 13:32 Beijing time on Saturday, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
The mission, which lasted for about eight hours, was conducted by the trio, Tang Hongbo, Tang Shengjie and Jiang Xinlin, with the assistance of a ground team and the space station’s robotic arm.
At 05:40, Jiang Xinlin opened the airlock hatch and exited the spacecraft. He then moved onto the robotic arm while Tang Hongbo conducted tasks on the outside. Tang Shengjie remained inside the core module, operating the robotic arm to provide support.
The primary objective of this mission was to carry out maintenance on the solar wing of the Tianhe core module, eliminating impacts from collision by micro particles in space.
Following evaluation and analysis, it was determined that the power generation of repaired solar wing was back to normal. This marks the first time that Chinese astronauts have conducted extravehicular maintenance activities on external spacecraft facilities.
After the repair work was completed at 10:10, the crew members proceeded with the extravehicular inspection tasks.
